Mario Party Superstars DLC Boards That Need To Happen
Hello everyone! Today I will be going over six Mario Party Superstars DLC boards that I hope to see shall downloadable content ever come to the game.
Mario Party Superstars is a popular and beloved entry to the franchise that offers players five fan-favorite boards from the Nintendo 64 era to play on. However, there are still many classic boards from previous Mario Party games that have yet to be included in Mario Party Superstars.
For this article I will only be going over boards from the Nintendo 64 era of the Mario Party franchise. While I would love to see GameCube era boards make it into the game as well, I would love to see some missing N64 era boards return first.
Now let’s jump on into Six Mario Party Superstars DLC Boards That Need To Happen.
#6 – Chilly Waters (Mario Party 3)
Chilly Waters from Mario Party 3, is set in a frozen world that is still a unique setting for a Mario Party board. With its cool atmosphere and hectic gameplay, Chilly Waters is an interesting board worth revisiting.
The board is full of Penguins and snowman, and there is even a colossal Mr. Snowman in the back of the map. The giant Mr. Snowman will even throw a giant snowball down the map, which players must dodge by successfully conquering a quick-time event.
Don’t Break The Ice In Chilly Waters
In Chilly Waters it is possible to slip on the ice or crack the ice in the center lake. Chilly Waters is refreshing due to the non-linear path with multiple directions to take from the lake, as well as how it differs from all other boards in Mario Party Superstars so far.
While Chilly Waters may not be the most iconic Mario Party board from the Nintendo 64 era, it would be a great addition to the game as further representation for Mario Party 3, and for its unique design and gameplay elements.
I would love to see this board get another chance as life by being added as a DLC board in Super Mario Superstars.
#5 – Bowser Land (Mario Party 2)
Bowser Land was originally the final unlockable board in Mario Party 2. The board is set in Bowser’s kingdom and features a coin-stealing Bowser parade that can throw any player off.
The board is intended to be the final board of the game, and this shows with the increased difficulty and punishing mechanics found throughout the map. The base game of Mario Party Superstars could really use something like this honestly.
Watch Out For The Bowser Parade In Bowser Land
Every 5 turns there is an opportunity for the Bowser Parade to take place. The path of the parade can be changed by players, and if a player gets caught in the final path, the event will be triggered. Any player caught in the Bowser Parade will continuously lose coins until they are chased back to the start of the board.
With its menacing atmosphere and exciting gameplay, this board would have been a fitting final unlockable board for Mario Party Superstars. I honestly was holding out hope for there to be a secret unlockable Bowser-themed board all the way until the launch of the game.
While it was unfortunate that none of the Bowser boards from the Nintendo 64 era of Mario Party appeared in the base game, it is never too late thanks to DLC.
#4 – Waluigi’s Island (Mario Party 3)
Waluigi’s Island is the last – and only – unlockable board from Mario party 3, and because of this the board is often forgotten about by casual fans. Heck I myself never unlocked it as a child and only found out it existed upon revisiting the beloved series as an adult.
Despite being a hidden board from the often underappreciated Mario Party 3, the board is often upheld as one of the best boards from the game, if not the entire series.
Waluigi’s Island Is Literally Explosive
Waluigi’s Island is one of the most dangerous Mario Party boards, as the board is filled with explosives, traps, and dangerous happening spaces. This unique fusion of danger and action is exactly what makes Waluigi’s Island such a hidden gem and favorite amongst fans.
The center island has a countdown that is set to explode if happening spaces are landed five times. Any players caught in the blast will lose all their coins. This map is chaotic and dangerous and it would make for a fun time if the board returns in Mario Party Superstars.
Adding Waluigi’s Island as a Super Mario Superstars DLC board would be the perfect opportunity to give this board another chance at life all while adding some unique flavor to the game.
#3 – Pirate Land (Mario Party 2)
Pirate Land from Mario Party 2, is set in a pirate-themed world and offers players a chance to take part in a swashbuckling adventure. With its treasure-filled challenges and high-seas games, it’s a great board for those that are a fan of the pirate theme.
I was pretty surprised when Pirate Land didn’t make an appearance in Mario Party Superstars. In my head I believed this board to be one of the more iconic boards in the history of the franchise.
Perhaps Nintendo had other plans and forced primarily on variations in gameplay and difficult. Regardless, I would love to see Pirate Land return as a Mario Party Superstars DLC board.
The Boardwalk In Pirate Land Is Unforgiveable And Dangerous
This themed course is iconic and many Mario Party fans remember this board fondly. While the board is pretty straight forward, ruthless happening spaces liter the board walk. If a player lands on these spaces, they are shot with a cannon ball from a pirate ship and launched all the way back to the start.
Throw in some skeleton keys – which is fitting for the theme – and Pirate Land can actually be quite explorable and add some strategy into the mix. There is even a treasure island with multiple item mini-game spaces and a bank, which only adds to the theme. The finale of this board has the winning player fight Bowser in a sword fight.
Between the pirate theme and chaotic and unforgiving gameplay, Pirate Land would make a great addition to Mario Party Superstars as a DLC board.
#2 – DK’s Jungle Adventure (Mario Party)
DK’s Jungle Adventure is one of the first Mario Party boards that classic players may have ever ventured through. The board takes players on a journey through a jungle filled with challenges with troublesome Whomps and dangerous rolling boulders.
This is another board I really thought was guaranteed to be in Mario Party Superstars. I even wrote an article predicting that it would be in the game. While I do really enjoy Yoshi’s Tropical Island and especially Peach’s Birthday Cake, I would have loved to see this iconic DK stage.
DK’s Jungle Adventure Is Full Of Rocky Surprises
One of the most iconic features DK’s Jungle Adventure is the booby-trapped happening spaces at the top of the board. If a player lands on one of these spaces, a giant boulder will come rolling from the top-right portion of the map. Any player caught in the boulder’s path will be chased to the left-hand portion of the board.
With its vibrant colors and jungle theme, this board is perfect for beginners or a more casual match. The base game of Mario Party Superstars included maps with varying levels of difficulty, so DK’s Jungle Adventure would be a perfect entry-level board to add to the game.
DK’s Jungle Adventure is the perfect mix of fun and enjoyable, and I would love to see it make its way to the game as a Mario Party Superstars DLC board. In fact, I was positive that this board would have been included in the base game. Better late than never though!
Let’s now move on to my top choice for Mario Party Superstars DLC boards.
#1 – Western Land (Mario Party 2)
Western Land from Mario Party 2 and is one of the most iconic and beloved boards in the entire franchise. It is no surprise that Western Land takes the top spot on this list. This is another board that I previously predicted to make it into the base game of Mario Party Superstars, but it unfortunately didn’t happen.
The board is set in a Wild West-themed world. Players can take part in activities like riding on an old-style train, take part in a hootenanny, and even duel in a cork gun showdown. All of these events enhance the theme of the board and add to the festivities.
Western Land Truly Has That Wild Wild West Feel
Western Land is truly unique to the Mario Party franchise, as no other board in the history of the franchise matches the environment or theme of the map. The best part is that there really is a “wild wild west” feel about Western Land.
There are a lot of gameplay elements that allow the players to cause chaos and mayhem throughout the session. There is a lot of annoyed yells and laughs that come with forcing players to go to the milk bar for a hootenanny right as they got to where they wanted to go.
That isn’t the only way to add to stir up trouble however, as players can purposely pay for a train ride and run over other players and launch them back to the start of the board. Additionally, a good fashioned cork gun duel is a great way to raise the stakes and put some coins on the line.
All of these reasons are exactly why Western Land is one of the best boards in Mario Party history, and I would love to see Western Land added as a Mario Party SuperStars DLC board.
Will Mario Party Superstars DLC Boards Happen?
There is no official announcement regarding Mario Party Superstars DLC boards at this time, but Nintendo did gauge interest by asking fans if they would be interested in purchasing Mario Party Superstars DLC in a recent survey.
Hopefully the results of this Mario Party Superstars DLC survey was deemed promising by Nintendo and worth pursuing development of DLC content. I know many fans would love for there to be Mario Party Superstars DLC boards.
However, Mario Party and Mario Party 2 have recently released to the Nintendo 64 section of Nintendo Switch Online, with Mario Party 3 to follow shortly next year. With these games now fully available on Nintendo Switch Online, it is possible that Nintendo won’t be adding more Nintendo 64 era Mario Party boards to Mario Party Superstars.
