After three long years, Ice Nine Kills are back! Following a week of teasing, the next era for the horror themed band is here. The band will be continuing the theme set from their previous album The Silver Scream. The lead single off their highly anticipated album “The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood” retells the story of the classic horror film American Psycho. The track is titled Hip To Be Scared and is a reference to the song Patrick Bateman plays in his apartment in the film. This isn’t just a reference though, as the song even incorporates this into the breakdown. Here is everything you need to know about the latest track by Ice Nine Kills.

The Hip To Be Scared Music Video

Spencer Charnas has always had a fascination with horror and death, but this time the murderous frontman goes full psycho. The lore of “The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood” reveals that the Ice Nine Kill’s frontman murdered his fiancé, and the album is the only evidence left. The music video for Hip To Be Scared follows a similar murder plot. Charnas channels his inner killer while playing his version of Patrick Bateman. The psychopathic frontman sports a classy suit, unfitting for the bloody mess he creates. The music video follows the killer through his days leading up to the murder of Paul Allen. The track is very theatrical, with a slow burning beginning, a hastily performed second verse, and a huge chorus fitting for theater. The song itself is exactly what any fan would expect from a sequel to The Silver Scream.

The Murder Of Jacoby Shaddix

After the second chorus a hilarious break occurs in the song. The metalcore stops and the 80’s rock begins. In a performance that rivals Christian Bales’ from the original film, Charnas lectures Jacob Shaddix (of Papa Roach) on the significance of Ice Nine Kill’s “The Silver Scream” record. After some talking and dancing, the Communion of the Cursed Frontman screams “Hey Paul!” and sends an axe crushing down into the head of Shaddix. The metalcore returns with a crushing breakdown fitting for a murder scene. Charnas then continues his chaotic singing from the second verse. Despite his death, Shaddix joins in for the final chorus. Could it be that Papa Roach’s “Getting Away With Murder” has come full circle?

Hip To Be Scared ft. Jacoby Shaddix is the lead single to the highly anticipated record The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood. Fans have reason to be excited, as a 14 track album is a pleasant surprise. Add guest features from the likes of Ryan Kirby and Corpsegrinder and you have one of the most anticipated released of 2021. Additionally, it seems like a new single will release on the 9th of each month leading up to the record. Evidence 2, 3, 4, and 5 all have release dates on the band’s official website.

After three long and weird years, Ice Nine Kills is back! The horror themed band are setting up their next era. It seems that the band will be continuing the theme set from their previous album “The Silver Scream”. The teaser trailer for the track is an obvious reference to the classic horror film American Psycho. If the horror theme indeed continues, this will be their third album referencing horror media. The band has grown drastically since the release of their last album, so the hype around the new track is real. While some people (not myself) find gimmicks in the metal scene “cringe” there is no denying that Ice Nine Kills are one of the hottest bands in the scene right now.

Ice Nine Kills Featuring Jacoby Shaddix?

The teaser shows frontman Spencer Charnas dressed up like American Psycho’s, Patrick Bateman. Additionally, it seems that Jacoby Shaddix will play the role of Paul Allen in the music video. This suggests that the track will feature the nu-metal icon as a guest vocalist. Currently the track is known only as the abbreviation of H.T.B.S., but one fan on Reddit theorizes that the title may be a reference to the song Patrick Bateman plays in his apartment.

*Update* As this article was being published, a post by Octane revealed the real name of the track. Hip To Be Scared featuring Jacoby Shaddix will premier on SiriusXM Octane this Friday at 9am ET. It looks like Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach is confirmed to be lending his voice to the track.

Ice Nine Kills Makes Even Elvis Presley Sound Eerie

The Fearless Records band kept their fans busy with both a cover and a parody during quarantine. First the band released a haunting version of Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling In Love for Valentine’s Day. The unfittingly spooky video is embed below.

Jason’s Mom Has Got It Going On?

Next the band released their 2020 acoustic parody Jason’s Mom on streaming platforms just in time for Mother’s Day. The track is a horror themed parody of Fountains of Wayne’s (not Bowling For Soup’s!) iconic track Stacy’s Mom. The acoustic performance can be found below. Ice Nine Kills’ friends at Motionless In White also experimented frequently during quarantine. Now both bands are ready to take over the rest of 2021.

Despite these efforts during quarantine, fans are fiending for a new album full of original metalcore tracks. We can’t blame them either. Fortunately the wait is just about over.
