Mario Party Superstars: Which Two Maps Could Be The Last Remasters

During their E3 2021 Direct, Nintendo announced the nostalgia heavy Mario Party Superstars. The Nintendo Switch game takes five boards from the original three N64 games and throws in 100 of the best mini-games from the series’ history. However, only three of the five remastered maps have been revealed so far. Fortunately, Nintendo is hosting another Nintendo Direct tomorrow, and we anticipate further news regarding the map choices. Let’s take this time to speculate which two maps we could end up seeing in the game.

The initial announcement trailer showed off gameplay from Peach’s Birthday Cake (Mario Party) and Space Land (Mario Party 2), while the Mario Party Superstars’ front cover revealed Woody Woods (Mario Party 3) as a playable board. I speculate that the remaining two maps will be from Mario Party 1 and Mario Party 2. Let’s jump on in.

Mario Party Superstars: The Remaining Two Maps

Western Land – Mario Party 2

Western Land is an iconic map and it is definitely deserving of a remake. Heck, Mario is featured right on the cover of the Mario Party 2 cartridge wearing his Western get-up the map. Additionally the track is one of the two starter maps in it’s respective game. Anyone who has played Mario Party 2 is bound to remember this board. While the other starter track, Pirate Land, could work as well, I see Western Land taking the spot. Western Land may even be my personal favorite Mario party board ever. I can’t imagine that I am the only one that shares this sentiment. My only concern regarding the board’s potential remaster is the train mechanic. But if Bowser’s cannon from Space Land can make a reappearance, anything is possible. Who’s down for a good ol’ fashion hootenanny?

DK’s Jungle Adventure – Mario Party

While there are plenty of Mario Party 1 maps to choose from, I believe DK’s Jungle will return for Superstars. The map takes over the mechanics from Whomp’s Domino Ruins from Super Mario Party and it is a fan-favorite. The happening spaces activating the boulders makes for a unique experience that is missing from the other confirmed boards. This is a small gimmick, but a fun one. The RNG mechanic only adds to the typical – and beloved – chaos the series is known for. Yoshi’s Tropical Island and Mario’s Castle function as simple maps perfect for remastering. However DK’s Jungle just strikes me as more iconic overall. This is likely personal bias, and it is possible that any of those three boards could be one of the two remaining boards, but I have my figurative money on this one.

Could There Be A Secret Sixth Board / Future DLC?

I picked boards from Mario Party 1 and 2 as I believe they are more memorable and thus likely to be remastered. Aside from Waluigi’s Island (which is a secret map), I don’t find too many of the Mario Party 3 maps to hold up compared to the ones found within the first two entries in the series. Perhaps a 6th secret unlockable map will be featured in the game, but for now I base this list on assume we truly only get five remastered maps. It is also possible that a Bowser map could be featured as an unlockable board, but we can’t be so sure.

Regardless of whether or not a sixth board exists, I just hope we see some DLC down the line. I think the game has a huge chance at being a hit, but the lack of maps featured in the latest two Mario Party games leaves a lot to be desired. Fingers crossed!
