‘Mario Party Superstars’ Remasters The Golden Era Of The Franchise

The Mario Party series has been around for a long time. While many of the earlier games on the Nintendo Gamecube are appreciated, most fans will agree that the Nintendo 64 era is the greatest. The series was exciting, fresh, and friends and family were all able to gather around the couch and play a virtual board game. Many have fond memories of the N64 Mario Party games. Now Nintendo is giving us a chance to relive those memories on the Nintendo Switch with Mario Party Superstars. The Nintendo Direct E3 2021 Presentation put a smile on viewers faces with the announcement of this wholesome title.

The game is a remix of the N64 Mario Party games, featuring 5 classic boards and 100 returning minigames. The remaster doesn’t just add a fresh coat of paint; it also adds online play. This follows the recent update to Super Mario Party (the first Mario Party game to ever feature online play). Here is everything you need to know about this revisit to the golden era of Mario Party.

Five Classic Boards Remastered In Glorious HD

The game features five classic Mario Party maps completely remastered in stunning HD graphics. Seriously, the boards look incredible. The trailer only featured gameplay from two returning boards. These were Peach’s Birthday Cake (Mario Party 1) and Space Land (Mario Party 2). The graphics are great and Peach’s Birthday Cake look delicious! We can already tell that these remakes are going to impress returning players.

While the boards seem to match the style of Super Mario Party, hopefully these remasters stay true to the original charm of the N64 games. The box art for the game reveals that Woody Woods from Mario Party 3 will return as well. There are two more boards that have not been revealed yet. Hopefully we see them soon. I am personally hoping for the inclusion of DK’s Jungle Adventure (Mario Party 1) and Western Land (Mario Party 2). Regardless, it is great seeing the return of some classic and beloved boards.

100 Of The Best N64 Era Minigames Return In Mario Party Superstars

As someone who still plays the N64 Mario Party games, I must say that the minigames really hold up. I am excited to try them out in their new (and hopefully improved) forms. The addition of online play will add to the chaotic nature of these early minigames too. Seriously, some of the early minigames are very frustrating, and I mean that in the best way possible. I can only imagine the chaos that will insure while playing with strangers across the globe.

The Mario Party Superstars developers did their research on this one. The announcement trailer showed off tons of the most iconic minigames of the past including Mushroom Mix-up, Face Lift, Look Away, Snowball Summit, Booksquirm, Coney Island, Bowser’s Big Blast, and many more! A previous game, Mario Party: The Top 100 also compiled fan-favorite minigames from Mario Party’s history, but to fan’s disappointment, the 3DS game did not feature any boards. Mario Party Superstars is thankfully correcting this wrong. We look forward to the minigame mayhem when the game launches for the Switch on October 29th, 2021
